Transmission questions for HSV2

  • I have HSV2 and have been with the same partner for 10 years. Except for the first three years I rarely get an outbreak and do not take meds for it. Recently I started dating again and have questions about transmission to a new partner. We have kissed, and I have given him oral. A few weeks after, he got cold and flu symptoms and I got 2 very painful genital outbreaks that were comparable to when I was first diagnosed with HSV2. I was not particularly stressed at the time of the outbreaks. We discussed that I have HSV2. My previous partner has never had an outbreak or shown any symptoms and I gave him oral frequently. Is it possible then for me to spread my herpes to a new partner simply by kissing them on the mouth or giving them oral? Thanks in advance....

I disagree, if you have HSV2, you cannot pass that orally unless he goes down there, and only if you are having symptoms. I am 54 and have had it since I was 26. I could possibly be wrong, if I was that would shatter everything I know or have read about the virus. Oral herpes HSV1 could be passed to him orally, but to my knowledge not HSV2. Hope this helps you.

It's totally possible. There's always a chance of your partner contracting it from you, it's just a lower likelihood when the virus is dormant. The best way to prevent this is to make sure that neither of you has any open wounds that would allow the virus a direct line from/to the bloodstream and refrain from sexual activity when the immune system is weakened.
